City of Cape Town Cleansing Services

Description:

The municipality is responsible for ensuring that its area is clean and litter-free. This includes providing bins, cleaning crews and enforcing by-laws against littering and other pollution.

The following complaints can be directed to the Cleansing Branch:

  • Illegal dumping.
  • Litter on river banks.
  • Litter on beaches.
  • Overflowing street litter bins.
  • Street sweeping.
  • Uncollected refuse.

Waste from the different suburbs of Cape Town are taken to one of the six landfill sites.

Operational hours for all drop-off sites

Summer: 1 September to 30 April
Monday to Friday: 08:00 to 20:00

Winter: 1 May to 31 August
Monday to Friday: 08:00 to 17:45

Saturdays: 08:00 to 17:00

Sundays: Drop-off sites will be open to the public all year round: 09:00 to 14:00
Closed on the following public holidays: Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day
