Biokineticist

The profession of Biokinetics is based on the science of movement and the applying exercise in rehabilitative treatment or performance. A Biokineticist is clinical exercise specialist who:

  • Is professionally aligned to health and medicine, and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Improves a person’s well-being and quality of life through providing an individualised scientific assessment and prescribes exercise in treatment for rehabilitation, and also to prevent or intervene with certain ailments (e.g. chronic disease and/or orthopaedic injury). A Biokineticist also enhances works with an individual to improve performance related to physical activities of daily living, work and sport.
  • Is a health professional who creates a better quality of life through wellness and health promotion.
  • Following an initial clinical evaluation with the Biokineticist, a detailed exercise programme is prescribed according to the individual’s fitness level and needs.

Dietician

Nutrition is a science and Dietitians are the recognised experts in the field of evidence-based nutrition, with the qualifications and skills to provide expert nutrition and dietary advice.

Registered dietitians are qualified health professionals registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) who has a minimum qualification of a four year scientific degree with training in all aspects and fields of nutrition and dietetics. Whether they consult privately to one client, work within a community or as part of the food supply chain, they have to adhere to best practice guidelines delivering sound dietary advice based on the latest scientific evidence.
