Western Cape to upskill 200 officials through new Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership
This week the Western Cape Provincial Treasury launched the Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership Programme to strengthen procurement capacity across all Western Cape Government departments.
The programme, funded through a discretionary grant from the Transport Education and Training Authority, will capacitate 200 Western Cape Government officials with the necessary qualifications and skills to move into the next phase of their career through an extensive one-year learnership.
The participants will work towards an NQF Level 5 Occupational Certificate: Supply Chain Practitioner, equipping them with the technical skills, practical experience and ethical foundation required to manage public resources responsibly.
Premier Alan Winde joined Western Cape Minister of Finance, Deidré Baartman, to engage with 50 of the 200 participating officials during the third induction session held on Friday morning at Valkenberg Hospital.
“Public procurement is where policy translates into real services, from infrastructure to healthcare to education. Strengthening this function, through programmes such as this learnership, will improve how government delivers to communities,” said Minister Baartman.
The learnership combines structured training with workplace experience to equip officials with the skills and judgement required to manage public funds responsibly and deliver value for money.
“Procurement officials are custodians of public money. Which means every decision they make must meet the highest standards of transparency and integrity. This learnership builds that capability while reinforcing the importance of ethical conduct,” the Minister said.
Premier Winde and Minister Baartman wished all participants and officials involved in this programme every success as the initiative gets underway.
