On Thursday, 16 June 2022 the Department of Transport and Public Works Directorate: Road Safety Management, together with the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) and various community leaders, hosted a Youth Day road safety awareness event at Chatsworth Path onto Prosperity (POP) Centre in Malmesbury.
At the event, young people learned about the dangers of the road, as well as how to adopt safe and responsible driving and walking behaviours. Through this and other road safety interventions, the Directorate aims to save lives and instil the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that that enable pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists, drivers and passengers to use the road safely.
“The event was a success, even though we were not able to reach the target group. The people who came enjoyed the event and they were receptive”, said Liezl Plaatjies, Assistant Director: Road Safety Management for the West Coast region.
