Premier Winde and Minister Mitchell to open the New Ashton Arch Bridge

Premier Alan Winde together with Transport and Public Works Minister, Daylin Mitchell, will on Sunday 15 August 2021, open the New Ashton Arch Bridge in Ashton.

The multi-million Ashton Arch is South Africa's first concrete tied arch bridge constructed using a transverse launching method. It replaces an existing multi-arch bridge that was built in the 1930s.

The transverse jacking of the bridge will take place on Saturday, 14 August 2021, during which the bridge will be moved into its original position.

Premier Winde and Minister Mitchell will be joined by Mayors of Langerberg Municipality and the Cape Winelands District during the official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday.
