On Wednesday, 26 May 2021, the Directorate: Road Safety Management of the Department of Transport and Public Works conducted a learner transport driver awareness workshop at Belhar Primary School.

Learner transport is the ferrying of learners to and from school, using an appropriate and roadworthy vehicle arranged by the Western Cape Education Department or by learners’ parents.

The workshop aimed to improve the driving behaviour of learner transport drivers through raising their road safety awareness. This is expected to improve learners’ safety and to improve the Western Cape’s poor road safety record.

“The workshop was fruitful, and I will definitely recommend it to others. I would attend again if given another opportunity. Lots was discussed there that we as drivers did not know”, said Mr. Adonis, one of the drivers who attended the workshop.
