About Minister Daylin Gary Mitchell

Minister Daylin Mitchell, born 7 February 1985, is the youngest Member of the Western Cape Cabinet.

Before his appointment, Minister Mitchell served as a Deputy Chief Whip for the Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, a position he held since the legislature resumed its sittings in May 2019.

He was elected Chairperson of both the Conduct Committee and the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works in 2019.

He previously served as the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on the Premier and of the Constitutional Matters and Petitions Committee.

Minister Mitchell has been a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the Democratic Alliance since 2015 when he was 29. This made him the youngest Member of the Provincial Parliament at the time.

Before his appointment as a Member of the Provincial Parliament, Minister Mitchell was selected for and graduated from the DA Young Leaders’ Programme in 2009 and served in various positions in the Democratic Alliance including that of youth leader, interim youth chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Western Cape Metropolitan Region.

During his career in politics, Minister Mitchell has had the privilege of leading many teams in various positions operationally, politically and strategically and this has prepared him for his new position. His time as Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works has provided him with essential background to his new responsibilities.

Minister Mitchell hails from Beaufort West and is a proud son of the Karoo.
