The Stern Review was announced by the British Chancellor of the Exchequer in July 2005. The review set out to provide a report to the Prime Minister and Chancellor by Autumn 2006 assessing the nature of the economic challenges of climate change and how they can be met, both in the UK and globally. The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, the most comprehensive review ever carried out on the economics of climate change, was published on 30 October 2006 and was led by Lord Stern, the then Head of the Government Economic Service and former World Bank Chief Economist.
