Supporting greater energy and water resilience for businesses in the Western Cape

This is an open call to local businesses to access free green economy help desks to improve energy and water resilience.

The Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning seeks to highlight the importance of resource resilience for business competitiveness, confidence, investment, growth, job preservation and job creation.

To support this, the Department aims to facilitate the growth of a green economy ecosystem for businesses and the uptake of green technologies (with a focus on energy and water) through access to expert support and the development of resources.

This support speaks to the Western Cape Energy Resilience Programme (WC ERP) launched in the 2023/24 Financial Year, and it serves to implement the Energy Resilience and Transition to Net Zero Carbon priority focus areas of the Western Cape Government’s Growth for Jobs Strategy (G4J) which includes taking a Whole of Government and Whole of Society approach to ensure faster delivery and delivery at a greater scale.

The Department will embark on roadshows and provide expert support to businesses. These roadshows look to drive greater awareness of energy and water efficiency through help desks and the provision of information (technical, financial, and regulatory) on energy-related and water-related matters.

The roadshow aims to provide direct support to businesses, SMMEs, and companies across all sectors in the respective districts of the Western Cape Province.

Each stop on the roadshow will give you access to:

• One-on-one consultations with green economy sector desk experts

• Resources that will assist businesses with investment decisions on building energy and water resilience

• Networking opportunities with other businesses and ecosystem players

The helpdesks and information provided by green economy sector desk experts will cover the following:

• A snapshot overview of the renewable energy and water landscapes in South Africa

• Step-by-step guides for improving energy and/or water resilience for businesses

• Finance and incentive options

• Case study examples of energy and water resilience initiatives in action.
