Western Cape DSD and Kimberly-Clark unite for vulnerable children
Nelson Mandela International Day (Mandela Day) is celebrated annually on 18 July, to honour the life and legacy of the late former president to encourage individuals to dedicate time to community service.
Throughout the month, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Jaco Londt, has been encouraging businesses and residents to get involved in making a meaningful impact on Mandela Day, and beyond.
Multinational company Kimberly-Clark Corporation heeded the call by joining the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) at two of its funded NGOs, Christine Revell Child and Youth Care Centre and The Chaeli Campaign on Mandela Day.
Christine Revell is a Designated Child Protection Organisation rendering support services and accommodation to children in foster care. The Chaeli Campaign provides support services to children and adults with disabilities.
Here, Kimberly-Clark delivered hygiene products to the value of over R100 000, committing to continue assisting these organisations beyond Mandela Day.
Anneline Scholtz, general manager at Christine Revell said, “We have 50 children who were abandoned, abused, or neglected, and we go through about 3000 nappies per month and that is our biggest need. So, I am overwhelmed and grateful to Kimberly-Clark and the Western Cape Department of Social Development for the much-needed supplies.”
Meanwhile, Chaeli Mycroft, co-founder of the Chaeli Campaign said, “One thing that we’re really passionate about is hearing the realities of people and supporting the whole person and I think this initiative is indicative of that. We’re grateful to Kimberly-Clark and government for getting on board and supporting the nitty-gritty side of things.”
Diane Obree, Kimberly-Clark’s Head of Marketing: Baby Care said, “At Kimberly-Clark, we believe in the power of small acts to drive lasting change. This Mandela Day, we are proud to collaborate with these deserving organizations by donating Huggies nappies to families in need. Together, we are committed to creating better care for a better world.”
Minister Londt thanked Kimberly-Clark for its generous donation, “These supplies will go a long way in strengthening the work of these two organisations that are making a real and lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children and their families. Kimberly-Clark’s support reminds us of the powerful impact partnerships can have, and I hope it is the start of a meaningful relationship where we can help so many more deserving organisations in the social sector. I encourage other businesses to follow their example by reaching out to the department or you can support through the Cape Care Fund to help build a more caring and inclusive society.”
