Surviving gender-based violence Survivor 5's story

The Survivor was referred to Worcester House of Hope by ACVV Worcester after she was physically and emotionally abused by her ex-boyfriend which is also her last born son’s father. She admits that she and her partner are strong users of alcohol. She left him on a Saturday after she asked him for money to go to town. This was just an excuse, the real reason was to seek help and she got assisted by ACVV Worcester. She has a background of trauma, her other children have been placed in foster care also by ACVV Worcester. She felt like she couldn’t stand the abuse anymore, she feared for her life and was afraid that her last born child would also be placed in foster care. She mentioned that her ex-boyfriend was a different person when he was sober but when he was drunk, he would physically attack her and use vulgar language towards her. He also allowed his family to mistreat her. Her escape from her circumstances was always alcohol that always led to abuse.

She participated in therapeutic sessions with the social worker as well as therapeutic group sessions and life skills training.

After the survivor successfully completed her stay in House of Hope, she was reunited with her older sister and her family.
