The NPO Help Desk was established to assist with registration support, compliance status information, NPO training, and certificate distribution.

It is important for all NPOs to practice good governance, transparency, and accountability to deliver the best possible service to our communities. DSD assists NPOs by providing with them with organisational capacity building and registration compliances.

Know Your NPO Status Campaign

As part of the national Know Your NPO Status Campaign, NPOs are encouraged to use the provincial DSD NPO Help Desk to determine their compliance status.

Facts about NPO registration and compliance

  • Once registered the NPO certificate does not expire, it can be used repeatedly until the organisation is deregistered.
  • NPOs however, may be registered but their status can be non-compliant due to the NPO not providing all the required documents. Non submission of annual reporting documents could eventually lead to deregistration.
  • The two documents required for compliance are the Annual Financial Statements and the Narrative Reports.
  • NPOs must submit their compliance documents within nine months after the end of the NPOs financial year, any changes to organisational information such as office bearers, physical address etc. should be included in this submission. Please note that any changes will require a board resolution, attendance register or/an amendment to the constitution.
