The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has established the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Cape Town to provide specialised learning for high school learners who show potential in mathematics, science and information technology, with high quality education for successful tertiary education.

Situated in Firgrove Way, Constantia, the academy accepts both day learners and boarders from grades 8 - 12. Learners at the Cape Academy in Cape Town.

The academy draws learners from all communities, with an emphasis on those from previously disadvantaged communities.

If you've a passion for mathematics, science or information technology,  the Cape Academy will give you the opportunity to improve your skills. 

The Academy offers:

  • Residential accommodation for 300 learners.
  • A safe and secure learning environment in a beautiful setting.
  • Transport for day learners to-and-from the nearest railway stations (Heathfield and Retreat).
  • Experienced, highly qualified staff.
  • Science laboratories and related facilities.

At the forefront of education Learners at Cape Academy graduation.

With a vision to be at the forefront in the education of Mathematics, Science and Technology both nationally and internationally, the academy forms part of a broad WCED Mathematics, Science Strategy and Technology to improve results in these subjects throughout the province.  

The Academy is the first school in South Africa that replaced textbooks with digital technology as a teaching tool called, Chromebooks. 

School principal, Angie Naidu said the school was mandated to select gifted learners and want to ensure that learners become trained to think critically and analytically as well as exposing them to robotics, coding and aviation.

"With a values driven curriculum, the academy allows us to mold citizens for the 4th industrial revolution and cater to the needs of an ever changing world. Through great teaching and learning we want our learners at the academy once they matriculate to take their rightful place in South Africa and thus steer our country into a direction that supports the greater good for all citizens," she said.
