The Red Tape Reduction Unit was established in 2011 in the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, officially launched the establishment of the unit in her State of the Province Address in February 2011.
The main objective of the unit is to cut red tape and remove bureaucratic blockages to make it easier and more cost-effective to do business in the Western Cape. We aim to achieve our objective in two ways:
•Statutory: By reducing legislation, regulations, permits, licences and standards (and the cost thereof) that presents an unnecessary burden to business.
•Systematic: By making bureaucratic procedures and reporting more efficient, especially reducing the time it takes to complete mandatory processes.
This website has been created to provide an open platform for government and business to discuss ways in which regulation and legislation can be designed to be effective but less burdensome. Let’s make doing business in the Western Cape, better together.
The Red Tape Reduction Unit (RTRU) has been established under the Department of Economic Development and Tourism with the clear objective of Cutting red tape, making it easier, cheaper and faster to do business in the Western Cape.
