The Influence of a Strategic Nitrogen (N) Application on the Dry Matter (DM) Production of Ryegrass and Clover in a Perennial Ryegrass-Clover Pasture under Irrigation

Objective:

This project aims to investigate the possibility of increasing DM production of a perennial ryegrass/white clover pasture through the application of a single application of fertiliser nitrogen.

Start: 1999
End: 2005
Status:
Underway
Description:

Different rates of fertilizer nitrogen (0, 50, 100 and 150kg N/ha) are applied in April, June, July, August and September (as a single application) and the effect of these treatments on dry matter production, botanical composition and the quality of a perennial ryegrass-clover pasture are noted. Soil nitrogen is also monitored over a seven-week period following nitrogen application.
