Community Police Forum (CPF) AGM & Elections


Come and Join your local CPF and become part of building safer communities!


The Department of Community Safety invites community organisations and institutions to register with the Department of Community Safety, or with your local CPF, in order to participate in your CPF’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections, from September 2019 to December 2019.

Start: 1 September 2019
End: 31 March 2020

The Provincial Commissioner shall, subject to the directions of the member of the Executive Council, be responsible for establishing community police forums at police stations in the province, which shall be broadly representative of the local community. The objectives of community police forums and boards are set out in the South African Police Services Act 68 of 1995, Chapter 7, section 18(1), which states that: “The Service shall, in order to achieve the objectives contemplated in section 215 of the Constitution, liaise with the community through community police forums and area and provincial community police boards, in accordance with sections 19, 20 and 21, with a view to:

  • (a) establishing and maintaining a partnership between the community and the Service;
  • (b) promoting communication between the Service and the community;
  • (c) promoting co-operation between the Service and the community in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing;
  • (d) improving the rendering of police services to the community at national, provincial, area and local levels;
  • (e) improving transparency in the Service and accountability of the Service to the community; and
  • (f) promoting joint problem identification and problem-solving by the Service and the community.”

If your organisation is interested to join the CPF and to participate in its activities, please enquire with the Department of Community Safety, or with the SAPS station commander at your local SAPS station

This is your opportunity to:

  • become a CPF member and represent your organisation on the CPF
  • become part of addressing crime in your area by participating in crime prevention projects, activities and awareness campaigns
  • perform civilian oversight over the police and improve police service delivery to the community
  • be a part of building community capacity through volunteerism and social cohesion
