Six of the Best

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport celebrated the success of 6 athletes that received ministerial bursaries at the National School Sports Championships.

These championships took place in Pretoria in December 2012 and the outstanding performance by these athletes earned them these prestigious bursaries.

The Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer praised the athletes for grabbing the opportunities afforded them and enhancing their capacity as athletes and ambassadors of the Western Cape as well as the nation.

The athletes excelled in the following areas of sport discipline:

Athletics: Keenan Michau (Bernadino Heights High), Tamzin Thomas (Western Cape Sport School)
Gymnastics: Nazley Losper (Wavecrest Primary)
Chess: Dantelle Joubert (Curro Private)
Basketball: Lukhanyo Grootboom (Montevideo Primary), Siyamthanda Sigwela (Montevideo Primary)

The Ministerial bursaries will go a long way in the development of these athletes for the future of sport.
