Media Alert: Minister Grant to “Drive Home” Message of Children's Education

23 January 2013

On Wednesday, 23 January, Minister Donald Grant will be visiting Khayelitsha to "drive home" the message to parents that they too are responsible for helping to improve their child's education.

The WCED have just launched a major campaign to encourage parents to help develop the language and maths skills of their children.

The WCED's main priority is to improve the language and maths skills of primary school children and is investing heavily in developing the language and maths skills of children, focusing primarily on our poorest schools.

While we have a long way to go to meet our targets, the latest results show that we are making progress.

Parents can play a crucial role in working with us to ensure further progress.

Media are invited to join Minister Grant in Khayelitsha today, where they will be taking a ride in one of the campaigns' taxi's which has a "wrap around" of the campaigns' key message. The Minister will also be stopping to talk to parents on his journey about the key messages of the campaign.

Date: 23 January 2013
Meeting Point: Khayelitsha shopping mall parking lot. (Maps are attached - Please take the Spine Road Turn-off)
