FET colleges strive by various means to promote entrepreneurship and enterprise development in the Western Cape.
FET colleges operate a centre for entrepreneurship and entreprise development in Kent Road, Salt River. The Centre is managed by the College of Cape Town.
The Centre serves as a hub for the network of simulated enterprises in South Africa and is operated in partnership with Danish and German technical support.

FET colleges currently operate 30 simulated enterprises on 20 college campuses and in 6 schools.

An additional 6 simulated enterprises will shortly be launched at FET Colleges.

A national pilot learnership in new venture creation is currently running at the College of Cape Town in which more than 80% of the participants are successfully operating their own new businesses.

FET college programmes not only prepare students for the world of work as employees but potentially, employers.

FET colleges work with various organisations in the promotion of entrepreneurship.

One such organisation is the Foundation for Economic and Business Development (FEBDEV), whose work with the community as Masiphumelele near Noordhoek has been well documented.

A new initiative to further strengthen entrepreneurship and enterprise development in FET colleges has seen the appointment of an independent service provider to work with the colleges to attain improved delivery targets.
