Wine Tourism is Key in Western Cape Tourism Strategy

26 September 2012

The Western Cape Government welcomes suppliers, buyers and members of the international media and product owners to Cape Town for Cape Wine 2012, which is considered the most successful international wine trade show in the southern hemisphere.

Cape Wine 2012 will be held at the Cape Town Convention Centre from 25 to 27 September 2012, and is targeted at international importers, agents, buyers, sommeliers, educators and media.

For the first time this year, Vindaba – a wine tourism exhibition showcasing the best in South African wine-related tourism - will be held alongside Cape Wine. On International Tourism Day, 27 September 2012, the exhibition will be open to the public.

Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, said: “The Western Cape Government extends a hearty welcome to all that have come to our province to attend Cape Wine 2012. I encourage all members of the public to attend Vindaba on International Tourism Day.”

“Wine tourism in the Western Cape generates income is excess of R5 billion per annum and creates thousands of jobs. We will continue to support the sector to ensure that it grows even bigger and employs even more people. It is also important that liquor and wine traders in our province operate responsibly. We want traders that are successful and consumers that are healthy,” Minister Winde added.
