Western Cape Health Facilities Geared for Eskom's Load Shedding

10 March 2014

Health facilities across the Province, both hospitals and primary health care facilities have been affected by intermittent electricity cuts on Thursday, 6 March 2014. All hospitals’ generators kicked in automatically. Diesel stock is sufficient.

This is part of the Province’s standard contingency plan.

Portable generators were made available by EMS to facilities with vaccine stocks and medication that require refrigeration to maintain the cold chain protocol. EMS monitored and offered assistance with the transport of critical clients.

Expected outages are being managed through our EMS engaging with all facilities on a continued basis.

Our Emergency Medical Services is geared to ensure efficient health services under these circumstances.
