Western Cape Government Mourns Radio Zibonele DJ, Zithobile Mthandeki

10 October 2014

Statement by Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

The tragic reports of the passing of community radio presenter, Zithobile Mthandeki has left us all at the Western Cape Government shocked and saddened.

This 24 year-old young man, who presented the popular current affairs show Nkqubo Ndaba Yezabahlali on Radio Zibonele was violently killed outside his home on Tuesday night.

His death is a monumental loss to the world of radio and to journalism as a whole. He will forever be remembered for his contribution to community radio in the Western Cape.

Crime in our communities continues to rob us of our talented young people. The police must work tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators of this violent crime are brought to book.

We send our deepest condolences to Zithobile’s family, his friends and his colleagues at this difficult time.

We say to them: Lalani ngenxeba.
