Western Cape Government Mourns the Passing of Eddie Zondi

17 June 2014

Media Statement by Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

The Western Cape Government mourns the passing of the legendary radio personality, who filled the homes of millions of South Africans every single Sunday with soothing music, Eddie Zondi.

The death of this icon is an incredible loss to the South African broadcasting and music industry.

Zondi was no doubt a national treasure, both in the industry and in the country.

Sundays will never be the same without his popular segment, the Romantic Repertoire, on Metro fm.

His musical offering drew very large audiences, both young and old.

Our deepest condolences to his family, his friends and his colleagues at this difficult time.

We say to you: Ukuhlanga kungehlanga.
