West Coast Welcomes WC Netball Teams in Saldanha Bay
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will partner with the West Coast Netball Union in hosting the Western Cape Inter-District Development Tournament on 24–25 August 2012 in Saldanha Bay. About 150 players are expected to participate in this prestigious event at the West Coast School.
Two teams each from Western Province, Boland, Central Boland and South Western Districts, as well two local West Coast teams, will take part. The department is confident that this tournament will play a pivotal role in the development of netball in a region that is hosting this event for the first time.
The tournament, previously hosted by the four other federations, will give young players an important opportunity to develop their skills. Only players under the age of 30 who have not previously been selected for a provincial team are eligible to participate.
Players from the department’s Development Programme will be seen in action during the event.
The tournament forms part of the plans of department and its partners to heavily promote netball next year. The games will commence on Friday, 24 August, at 15:30 at the West Coast School, and resume on Saturday morning at 08:00.
