Skills training opportunity for Level 1 and 2 CIDB contractors

4 July 2016

The Department of Transport and Public Works will soon be providing accredited training at no cost to a limited number of emerging Western Cape contractors on how to run their construction businesses more effectively. Those who are keen to make use of this opportunity have until 8 July 2016 to apply.

Course participants will spend five days a month over ten months, starting in July or August 2016 (dates to be confirmed). The part-time design of the course enables participants to spend one week a month in training, so that they can spend the remaining three weeks of the month actively managing their businesses. Those who successfully complete the training will receive a certificate of competence from the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA).

The programme is open to contractors who have a Level 1 or 2 Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) rating, and preference is given to CIDB-rated contractors who have registered construction businesses and who have been active in the industry for at least two years.

The training components are:

  1. enterprise development,
  2. building the construction business,
  3. applying innovative safety principles to the construction site, and
  4. managing the construction site.

The Department will cover the costs of the training including transport and accommodation. Possible training venues are Paarl, Bredasdorp, Stellenbosch or Worcester. Applicants must complete the required application form and all the required documentation in order to be considered. The Department will advise successful applicants of the training details in good time.

Application forms are available on the Department’s website.
