Shooting Incident Claiming the Lives of Woman and Traffic Officer to be Investigated

The Minister of Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max. has expressed his shock following the tragic shooting incident on Monday night, when Provincial Traffic officer, Mr Mpumelelo Singata (31) apparently shot and killed his girlfriend (name withheld as next of kin not yet informed) and afterwards committed suicide.

Max conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased.

The Department of Community Safety will launch a full investigation, independently of the police investigation, into the possible reasons behind the tragedy.

The Department will also ascertain if the deceased officer made use of the Employee Assistance Programme of the Department - this is to ensure improved service delivery to all employees.
