Senior SAPS Assure Me that Policing Remains Unaffected by Allegations

29 October 2013
Statement by Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety

This morning I met with Senior Western Cape SAPS Management and discussed the matter of allegations concerning the Provincial Commissioner in the media over the last week, which has caused concern about the effect these allegations are having on policing.

The Western Cape Police Commissioner, General Arno Lamoer, was not present at this meeting, however this morning a delegation of his deputy commissioners have assured me that:

  •  The SAPS organisation is stable;
  •  Policing on the ground continues unaffected and;
  • A good management system is in place to ensure continued stability.

I will, in terms of my police oversight mandate, continue to monitor this situation.
