Saturday Schools for 2008 Supplementary Examination Matric Candidates

6 January 2008

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is organising special Saturday schools for candidates who failed the 2007 Senior Certificate Examinations. The candidates will be able to write supplementary examinations in May and June this year.

The tutorial programme forms part of a national initiative to support candidates who failed matric in 2007. The national Department of Education will invest more than R6-million in the programme in the Western Cape.

Candidates who registered and sat for Cape Senior Certificate examinations before 2008 will be able to write Senior Certificate examinations based on the old curriculum until 2011.

Candidates registering for matric for the first time in 2008 will have to write National Senior Certificate examinations based on the new national curriculum.

The support programme will take place at 30 schools throughout the Western Cape from 2 February to 17 May 2008. The programme will include three sessions on Saturday mornings, each lasting 90 minutes, amounting to a total of 15 tutorial sessions.
