Review of Effects of Today's Industrial Action - 26 August 2010

25 August 2010

Management arrangements by the Western Cape Education Department to monitor attendance of educators during today's industrial strike action indicate that there had been an increase in school closures and teacher absenteeism since yesterday.

Seven (7) percent (105) of our schools closed as a result of today's industrial strike action.

Twenty eight (28%) of educators were absent from work.

We are thankful that the vast majority of our schools in the Western Cape continued to function. We continue to advise parents and caregivers to send their children to school on Friday.
