Resealing Works on the R43 near Wolseley

The Department of Transport and Public Works will be resealing one 8 km and one 4 km section of the R43 near Wolseley. The project is valued at R47 million and is scheduled for completion late in 2016.

Up to 5 700 vehicles travel on this road every day.

Work will include repairs to pavement layers and edge breaks, as well as the construction of a double seal and edge beams at gravel road access points and intersections. Maintenance work will also be done on all bridges on the affected parts of the R43.

General Traffic Management

There will be half-width construction with stop/ go operations during the day and a traffic light system at night.

Possible Delays

Motorists can expect weather-related delays.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The Department is committed to providing Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) work opportunities and to developing emerging contractor businesses. A total of 12 000 person-days of work will be created for local labour in the Witzenberg Municipality. A total of 9% of the contract value is expected to be spent on targeted contractor businesses in the Western Cape.
