R60 Not Open for Easter

26 March 2013

The R60 between Ashton and Swellendam will not be open for traffic this Easter Holiday.

A crater on the R60 caused by a slip failure will only be fully completed towards the end of April 2013. Filling and the lower selected layer is now complete. The road should be re-opened on 26 April 2013. Off-road works will continue until 30 April 2013.

Initially it was planned to have the road open for traffic by the end of February 2013. However, the scope of the repair was greater than originally estimated.

An appointed contractor is working tirelessly to get the road ready for motorists. Motorists are requested to continue following the temporary road signs redirecting traffic via the N2 and the R317. The signs were erected at major intersections in the following areas:

  • Ashton
  • Robertson
  • Bonnievale
  • Swellendam
