Open Day for Minibus Taxi Operators Closes Transport Month

30 October 2012

The Department of Transport and Public Works marked the end of Transport Month with an Open Day for minibus taxi operators at the Wittebome Civic Centre in Wynberg on 30 October 2012.

The Department’s Provincial Regulating Entity (PRE) invited minibus taxi associations in the Cape Metropolitan region to the event.

As part of PRE’s “Taking Our Service to the Nation” campaign, the Open Day gave these public transport operators an opportunity to engage with transport officials on a one-on-one basis.

The Department and taxi operators shared ideas and thoughts on key issues such as the Taxi Recapitalisation Programme and road safety awareness.

Speakers at the event included George Mahlalela, Director General: National Department of Transport and Robin Carlisle, Minister of Transport and Public Works.

Programme Director, Bernie Macmahon, Senior Manager: Transport Licencing at the Department of Transport and Public Works lauded taxi industry members in attendance, saying they were “respectful, co-operative and received the information in a positive vein”.
