New Tennis Court Facility for Prince Albert

11 August 2015

On Friday, 11 August 2015, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais, together with the Mayor of the Prince Albert Municipality, Mr Goliath Lottering, opened the upgraded tennis court facility at the municipal sports centre.

Before the official ribbon cutting, Minister Marais acknowledged tennis as one of the 16 priority sporting codes identified by the national Department of Sports and Recreation. Minister Marais said “with the upcoming Olympic Games taking place in Rio, Brazil, next year, I will be looking out for tennis stars hailing from Prince Albert. I will then know that it was on this very tennis court that they practiced and developed into Olympic athletes representing the Western Cape and South Africa as a whole at the most esteemed international sporting event.”

Minster Marais also encouraged the community to take full advantage of the facility to develop their tennis talents and also work together to take ownership of the courts to ensure  safekeeping and maintenance of the facilities.
