New Electricity Cables Provide Power for 2010

City of Cape Town Electricity Services has started installing high voltage underground cables in the CBD and Green Point. The 132kV cables will provide increased capacity and security of electricity supply to the area and will also supply power to the new Green Point stadium.

The total length of the cable route is 6,5 km. The cables will be installed in road reserves or servitudes and the project will take eight months to complete.

A map of the route the cables will take is on display in the Concourse of the Cape Town Civic Centre.

The major roads affected are:
* Table Bay Boulevard - Oswald Pirow Street to Heerengracht
* Heerengracht
* Coen Steytler Avenue
* Buitengracht Street
* Western Boulevard

For their own safety, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are requested to adhere strictly to the temporary signage and road markings.

Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience.
