My 2010 School Adventure Schools Confederations Cup

18 May 2009
The newly appointed MEC for Cultural Affairs & Sport, Mr Sakkie Jenner, today formally handed over 80 sport kits to the 4 teams that will represent the Western Cape at the Schools Confederation Cup Final to be held in Johannesburg this weekend.

The teams, who form Team Western Cape/Iraq, include an under 14 and under 18 girls' teams from Gugulethu, an under 18 boys team from DCAS Sport School in Kuils River and an under 14 boy's team from Plettenberg Bay.

The My 2010 School Adventure campaign was launched on 8 May 2009 and aimed to target 12 million learners to promote both education and participation in football using the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a platform.

"I would like to wish our junior soccer ambassadors well with this weekend's tournament. I am sure that once again the Western Cape/Iraqi team will showcase the immense soccer talent this Province has to offer," says MEC Jenner.

"I am proud as MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport to see our young people are using their God-given talents to avoid the social ills, of crime and drug abuse which are currently plaguing our society," Jenner adds.

Our rising stars, will this weekend be battling it out with 8 other teams, to find out who will be crowned champion of the Schools' Confederations Cup.

"I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our budding stars well ahead of their challenge this weekend, and as MEC I am sure that you will be doing the Western Cape proud."
