Minister Winde to Conduct Business Door-to-Door Visits in Khayelitsha

On Monday, 3 December 2012, Western Cape Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, will visit businesses in the Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading (VPUU) precinct in Harare, Khayelitsha.

The purpose of the visit is to encourage businesses in the area to enter the Western Cape Entrepreneurship Recognition Awards.

The awards are aimed at encouraging a culture of entrepreneurship in the Western Cape.  

The prizes for the competition are as follows:

  • Overall winner – A trip to the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Conference worth R100 000.
  • Best Existing Business – R50 000 for the winner, R25 000 for second place and R10 000 for third place.
  • Best Emerging Business - R50 000 for the winner, R25 000 for second place and R10 000 for third place.
  • Best Co-operative - R50 000 for the winner, R25 000 for second place and R10 000 for third place.
  • Best Social Entrepreneur – R50 000 for the winner, R25 000 for second place and R10 000 for third place.
  • Best Export Businesses - R50 000 for the winner, R25 000 for second place and R10 000 for third place.
  • Best Green Business – R25 000.
  • Best Student Innovator – R25 000.
  • Best Overall Innovator – R25 000.

There will be opportunities for interviews and photographs.
