Minister Schäfer Responds to Release of 2014 Matric Results

4 January 2015

Statement by Minister Debbie Schäfer, Western Cape Minister of Education

The much anticipated results of the NSC are expected to be announced tomorrow, 5 January 2015, by Minister Motshekga. Schools and candidates in the Western Cape will receive their results on the 6 January 2015.

Schools collect the results from district offices on the morning of the release. They are then asked to analyse the results and check for any errors. At noon on 6 January 2015, the 2014 NSC candidates will then receive their individual results.

The individual candidate results will then be available on the Western Cape Government website  from 15:00 on Tuesday 6 January 2015.

Many parents and learners question why, in the Western Cape, learners have to wait until 12:00 the following day to receive their results. This is done for a number of reasons which include the fact that principals examine the results to pick up any errors, and to alert the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) regarding a candidate that may be disappointed by their results and need counselling.

The WCED has counsellors available across the province should candidates need assistance.

Candidates can contact the WCED's Exams Helpline for further information at 021 467 2300, or visit the Exams Helpdesk at the WCED's Head Office, second floor, Grand Central Building, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town
