Minister Ramatlakane appointed Acting-Premier of the Western Cape

Western Cape Minister for Community Safety Leonard Ramatlakane has been officially sworn in as Acting-Premier of the Western Cape this morning.

Minister Ramatlakane was officially sworn in by Judge President of the Cape Justice John Hlophe at the Western Cape Legislature.

Outgoing Premier Marthinus Van Schalkwyk and Director-General of the Provincial Government Western Cape Dr Gilbert Lawrence, were also present.

Van Schalkwyk told the media present, that he was confident that he is leaving (provincial) office at the hands of capable men and women.

"The leadership shown by my partners in the provincial government (ANC) has shown that they are a strong team."

Minister Ramatlakane will be acting Premier until Premier-elect Ebrahim Rasool, is officially sworn-in Friday next week.

Minister Ramatlakane said "Although it is a short term, I am delighted with the opportunity to lead the province. This is an indication that the people have trust in me".
