Minister Plato to attend Provincial PNP workshop in Caledon

5 June 2015

Tomorrow, Saturday 6 June 2015, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will attend the new Provincial Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) consultation workshop for the Hermanus/Caledon police cluster in Caledon.

For the first time since the PNPs were conceived, this newly structured 2-day PNP consultation workshop will see a practical and implementable safety plan drafted that is aligned to the safety needs and priorities within every community across the Western Cape.

The communities of Bredasdorp, Caledon, Gansbaai , Genadendal, Grabouw, Hermanus, Kleinmond, Napier, Riviersonderend, Stanford, Struisbaai and Villiersdorp have the opportunity tomorrow to contribute to the Safety Plan, as a safety blueprint for communities which provides a shared ownership, responsibility and accountability to safety.

Background Information: Between May and November 2015, the Department of Community Safety will bring together various stakeholders in the safety and security environment for each of the 16 police clusters for two-day consultative workshop and will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

The aim of the workshops is to use the information generated by the 2014/15 PNP process – the findings and recommendations – together with the various Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagements as a starting point for discussions at policing cluster and precinct level in drafting the area specific plan.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
