Media Alert: Women defend their safety

15 August 2010

Women's safety is high priority this month and as part of their programs honouring women this Women's Month, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, City of Cape Town and SAPS will, on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 10h00 at the Hanover Park Community Centre host self-defense classes to the elderly women of Hanover Park.

Hanover Park is notorious for its high crime rate and women are more vulnerable as they are deemed easy targets and are often victims of robberies as they collect their social grants and pension. The self-defense classes will target these women, highlight the dangers and challenges faced by women on a daily basis, equip them with self-defense skills and empower them with life skills.

Media are invited as follows:
Date: 17 August 2010
Time: 10H00
Venue: Hanover Park Community Centre
