Media Alert: Mossel Bay Dias Festival Officially Opened By Minister Marais

Tomorrow, 5 February 2016, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will officially open the Mossel Bay Dias Festival

Hosted by the Mossel Bay Municipality, the Dias festival serves to commemorate the landing of Bartolomeu Dias and his fleet at what is today known as Mossel Bay on 3 February 1488. The festival also aims to stimulate the local economy as well as the marketing of the town.

The theme “Where Cultures Meet,” is aligned to the significant meeting of European and South African indigenous cultures. The 2016 Dias Festival will see the participation of folk dancers and performing cultural groups from Indonesia, Portugal, China, Germany and Madagascar amongst others. Entry into the festival arena is free, so that all can experience several of South Africa’s top performers sharing the stage with international entertainers.   

The festival takes place from 3 - 7 February 2016.
