Media Alert: Minister Carlisle to Officially Open Khayelitsha's Revamped SACLA Centre

17 July 2011

Robin Carlisle, the Transport and Public Works Minister in the Western Cape, will cut the ribbon this afternoon at the SACLA Centre in Khayelitsha, unveiling a facility that has undergone "an extreme makeover" over the past eight months.

On Nelson Mandela International Day last year, US actor Morgan Freeman and a group of celebrity bikers joined Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Cape Town Mayor (at the time) Dan Plato to begin erecting a security fence around the facility. The fence is now complete.

The lights will be switched on as the Minister cuts the ribbon and a short movie will be screened on how the building has been revamped from ruins.

Members of the media are invited to attend.

Date: Monday, 18 July 2011
Time: 14:30
Venue: SACLA Centre, Khayelitsha

Directions to SACLA Centre:
On the N2 to Khayelitsha, take the Mew Way turnoff.
At the robots, turn left into Lansdowne Road, and then right into Bonga Drive.
Cross over intersection of Pama Road and Bonga Drive, which now becomes Lwandle Road.
Immediately after crossing Pama, turn right to the SACLA Centre.
