MEDIA ALERT: CAPE WINELANDS MUSEUM ROUTE BROCHURE TO BE LAUNCHED BY MINISTER MARAIS

Today, 15 May 2017, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will officially launch the Cape Winelands Museum Route Brochure in Ceres. Minister Marais will also be presenting a cheque in support of all affiliated museums in the Cape Winelands region.

The museum route website and brochure forms part of the strategy to provide museums in the region with a medium through which they can communicate their activities and the services they offer.   It will furthermore provide a platform for the museums in the region to position themselves as tourist attractions and in so doing contribute to the economic growth of the Cape Winelands.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) supports affiliated Province-aided- and Local museums with an annual subsidy and grant payments respectively. These funds are used to assist with the museums’ operational requirements. The museums depend on these funds to keep their doors open to the public. The cheque handover ceremony serves to create public awareness of our affiliated museums and the support provided to these museums by the department.

The following museums are receiving cheques on the day:

  • Huguenot Memorial Museum
  • Paarl Museum
  • Stellenbosch Museum
  • Wellington Museum
  • Montagu Museum
  • Oude Kerk Volksmuseum
  • Togryers Museum
  • Jan Danckaert Museum
