MEC Sakkie Jenner to Visit the Cape Town Book Fair

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Mr Sakkie Jenner will on Monday 15 June 2009 be visiting the Cape Town Book Fair, to show his support for the valuable work the department's library and language services are doing to ensure that our people are kept informed and entertained.

The Department is represented at this book fair, by its Library Services. This years' theme is "Public Libraries are Free".

According to Minister Jenner 'the Department's participation, illustrates its seriousness with regards to the importance of Libraries in ensuring that our previously disadvantaged communities can also get access to information and services, free of charge.'

'The mission of the Western Cape Provincial Library Service within the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is to transform and enhance the quality of life of all the inhabitants of the Western Cape by enabling municipalities to render free public libraries at 337 service points throughout the Province,' says Minister Jenner.

'One of the most important objectives of our library service is to promote libraries and the culture of reading, which is seriously lacking among our people today.'

'It is up to us, to ensure that our children get the valuable information they need to guarantee a prosperous and informed future.
