MEC Max Praises Police on Another Foiled Hijacking

8 September 2009
The MEC for Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max, wishes to congratulate the Organised Crime Unit as well as the Intervention Unit of the South African Police Service for foiling a planned hijacking of a cash delivering van in Kuilsriver on Monday.

The continued hijacking of cash-in-transit vehicles holds a serious threat to the safety of security officers as well as innocent bystanders. The speedy response by SAPS officers, as well as the prompt arrest of the suspects deserves much praise.

MEC Max also praises the Special Task Team that arrested six apparent criminals in Cape Town inner city on Thursday, 3 September. This after the police received information of suspicious activity in Orange Street.

Max says that these operations testify to the efficient and effective training that the police officers receive and that their confident execution in real time criminality sets an example to all their colleagues.

This further testify to the growing confidence the public have in the SA Police Service in the Western Cape in entrusting officers with information knowing that they will act on it.

Minister Max further urges the community to be the ears and the eyes of the police and that they should speak out whenever they have information on any crime already committed or being planned. This sharing of information will ensure more effective policing and will ensure safer communities.
