MEC Max Calls for Urgent Meeting with Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) after Shooting of Member

13 September 2009
The Minister of Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max, has called for an urgent meeting with the Mitchells Plain Commmunity Policing Forum (CPF), after a forum member, Mr. Vincent Naidoo, was gunned down by unidentified suspects on Friday night.

Whilst Max praised the subsequent actions of the police he emphasised that such action should not only be taken after somebody died at the hands of drug lords. Max said that there is no justification for the murder of Mr. Naidoo and the attack on others, as they were not in confrontation with anyone.

Mr. Naidoo paid the highest price to ensure the safety of his community. His disability did'nt prevent him to join forces with the police in the fight against drugs and gansterism.

The police should continue with a zero tolerance approach against drugs and gangsterism. Everything must be done to bring the murderers to book.

Whilst the community is angry about the murder of Mr. Naidoo, Max urged them to remain calm and to allow the police to deal with the issues at hand.

The police and the community will continue their partnerships to make our province free from the fear of crime.

NB. Max is currently on a road show to all six regions in the province to hear from the CPF's how they experience crime and what their expectations are from the Department of Community Safety as well as the police to effectively address crime.
