Mec Dyantyi Meets Residents of Mfuleni

The MEC for Local Government and Housing in the Western Cape, Qubudile Richard Dyantyi, will this evening meet with the residents and the leadership of Bhekela in Mfuleni to communicate the joint decisions taken by the leadership of the affected communities and the Province regarding relocation.

This follows two significant intervention meetings by the MEC with the leadership of Mfuleni in resolving the relocation debacle. The community of Mfuleni took a decision not to allow any possible relocation of families to Bardale land from the different disaster affected areas in Khayelitsha.

More than 1800 families from the TR section who are residing under the difficult and unsafe conditions along the railway line and the flooded areas were suppose to relocate to the earmarked Bardale land by December last year. The move was met with the huge resistance from the angry residents of Mfuleni who demanded to be included to the possible relocation plan to the Bardale land.

The MEC and the department will work tirelessly in ensuring that, the people who are living under the inhuman conditions are getting the priority they deserve from the provincial government.

THE MEETING WILL BE OPEN TO THE MEDIA

DATE: January 30, 2008
