Mayor to Award Civic Honours to Top Achievers

Each year, the City of Cape Town bestows Civic Honours in five categories to outstanding individuals or organisations in recognition of their remarkable service to the Cape metropole and its residents.

 

The five award categories consist of the Freedom of the City, the Signing of the Civic Honours Book, the bestowing of the Honorary Title of Alderman, the Freedom of Entry, and the Mayor's Medal.

Although no Freedom of the City will be awarded this year, the nominees cover a broad spectrum of achievers such as Raymond Ackerman, Ton Vosloo, Johaar Mosaval, Abdullah Ibrahim, and the late Dullah Omar, Eulalie Stott and Taliep Petersen.

Executive Mayor Dan Plato will confer these awards at a special City Council meeting on 28 April 2010.

The Speaker of the City of Cape Town, Alderman Dirk Smit, invites all media to the Civic Honours Award Ceremony, which takes place as follows:
