Mandela Day - Minister Fritz to join Rise Against Hunger and other initiatives

Tomorrow the Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz, will join millions of South Africans in devoting 67 minutes in service of their fellow citizens, as we remember the spirit of former President Nelson Mandela.

Minister Fritz will be participating in 3 events tomorrow to commemorate Mandela Day.

Rise Against Hunger event at Grandwest

Minister Fritz will begin by joining the 2017 Rise Against Hunger charity event at the Grandwest Casino. The Rise Against Hunger event plans to pack a target of 180 000 meals on the day to be donated to shelters and charities across the city.

Minister will join approximately 1200 volunteers from the private sector, NGOs and the general public who will each give their 67 minutes to pack meals.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.

Date: 18 June 2017 (Tomorrow)

Time: 09:00 am.

Venue: The Market Hall, Grandwest Casino, Goodwood

 

Blanket handover to the elderly in Mitchells Plain

Minister Fritz will then make his way to the Beaconvale Frail Care Centre in Mitchells Plain, to join NGO partner Al-Imdaad, in donating 100 blankets to the elderly residents at the facility.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.

Time: 12:00 pm.

Venue: Beaconvale Frail Care Centre, 2 Rambler Street, Mitchells Plain

 

Wheelchair handover in Kraaifontein

Minister will conclude his Mandela Day activities in Kraaifontien, where he will donate a specialized wheelchair to a disabled man who had been struggling to acquire a wheelchair which meets his special needs.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.

Time: 14:00 pm.

Venue: Rimini Street, Morgenste Hoogte, Brackenfell
