Madiba Day activity at junior traffic training centre

14 July 2017

The junior traffic training centre at Aurora High School near Piketberg will get a facelift on Madiba Day, 18 July 2017. Staff members of the Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Education Department and Berg River Municipality will paint the facility as well as demonstrate road safety activities such those of the Safety in Traffic Programme (STEP).

Child pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to road crashes, as they often have to walk to school unaccompanied or use public transport at an earlier age. This highlights the necessity for road safety education for children. Junior traffic training centres teach learners at risk how to apply good road safety habits as they grow up. Such facilities feature a simulated road environment in which young children can learn to use roads safely and responsibly.

The partners are confident that the Madiba Day facelift will help to reduce child pedestrian injuries and fatalities in the Aurora area over time.

Media are invited to attend.

Date and time: 18 July 2017, painting will begin at 10:00.
